Lost at Sea for 95 Days: A Fisherman’s Incredible Survival Story

After 95 days adrift in the Pacific Ocean, Peruvian fisherman Maximo Napa has finally reunited with his family, crediting faith and resilience for his survival.

Maximo Napa set out on a fishing trip from the southern coast of Peru, expecting to be at sea for two weeks. However, a storm pushed his boat off course, leaving him stranded in the Pacific Ocean for 95 days. With his food supply gone, he endured by eating whatever he could find while collecting rainwater to stay hydrated. His family initiated a search, but it wasn’t until an Ecuadorian fishing patrol spotted him, severely dehydrated and weak, that he was finally rescued.

Through it all, Napa held onto the hope of seeing his loved ones again, especially his newborn granddaughter. His mother, Elena Castro, admitted that while she began to lose faith, her daughters never gave up. Now back home in Paita, he is undergoing medical evaluations before traveling to Lima, grateful for what he calls a second chance at life.
