A Special Movie Rental Corner Keeps Christina’s Routine Alive

When Christina Cavanaugh’s beloved video rental store closed, the owner found a heartwarming way to keep her tradition alive, creating a rental section just for her.

For 15 years, Christina Cavanaugh, a resident of Pocatello, Idaho with Down syndrome, visited Video Stop daily to rent movies—a cherished routine that gave her comfort and joy. When the store faced closure due to the rise of streaming services, owner David Kraning took a thoughtful approach to preserving Christina’s tradition. He set up a small video rental section inside the adjacent K&B Kwik Stop, ensuring she could continue her visits. Known as "Christina’s Corner," the space also welcomes a few other loyal customers, allowing the community to keep a piece of the past alive.

Beyond Christina’s story, the revival of physical media has found a niche following, much like vinyl records did in the 2010s. Independent video stores and libraries continue to offer DVDs and Blu-rays, providing movie lovers with access to films without the uncertainty of streaming availability. Thanks to small business owners like Kraning, physical rentals remain an important resource—both for those who rely on them for routine and those who simply cherish the experience of browsing and discovering movies in person.
